INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2021

According to the United Nations Secretary, General António Guterres, young people are on the frontlines of the struggle to build a better future for all. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the dire need for the kind of transformational change they seek – and young people must be full partners in that effort.

This year’s International Youth Day themed Transforming food systems: Youth innovation for human and planetary health is a celebration of innovative youth-led solutions for the achievement of the SDGs and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of these SDGs (3,4,5&6) on good health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, and clean water are innovative solutions The Sapphires Development Initiative fully supports and advocates. They are bedrocks upon which we synchronize youth education, innovative engagement, and entrepreneurial solutions to solve communal and global matters.

Meanwhile, the United Nations opines that supporting literacy with regards to the food systems and education regarding how its maintenance and quality can be achieved even at a time like this with the pandemic rising at different rates in various countries based off on the Economic and Social Youth Forum held on the 7 & 8, April 2021 is paramount and should not be overlooked.

The Sapphires Development Initiative having the overall vision of eradicating poverty, reducing hunger, and creating a fundamental evolution where individuals are motivated to attain excellence through harnessed potentials shows its staunch support by endorsing this motion and even much more especially in Africa, particularly Nigeria, where the population intensifies steadily.

Research shows that the world’s population would increase by 2 billion in the next 30 years and of course, the inclusion and active participation of youths in every community is important in achieving global goals like good health, stable food systems, etc. After all, children and youths are the leaders of tomorrow.

The International Youth Day’s Festival which is celebrated today and tomorrow the 12th and 13th of August, 2021 is a strategic and timely approach to drive our world to a solutions-oriented future through youth-led innovation as it pulls together young innovators and solutions makers together with United Nations offices, policymakers and industry leaders. We, at The Sapphires Development Initiative, aim to provide a platform for young people to keep delivering innovative solutions to world problems including food insecurity that could lead to health mismanagement, etc. We recognize the creativity and excellence in every young person and today we choose to add our quota. Hence, we present to you our first webinar program themed Study Abroad& Scholarships: The Myth and The Truth scheduled for the 26th of August, 2021.
