From the 4th to the 6th of August, 2022, The Sapphires Development Initiative organized a digital sensitization and literacy project. This project was held in a rural area in Southwestern Nigeria called Okua. The main aim of the project was to sensitize the children and youths of the community about the importance of literacy and digitization. It is further to the end that future leaders are equipped and motivated to bring about change first in their communities and then in the country.

UNICEF records that 10.5 million children are out of school and this speaks in volumes about the state of digital literacy in the country. Two major tenets TSDI is committed to is Literacy and Leadership
To this end, this project was organized to mold the minds of children and youth to think beyond the ordinary and be invested in quality education and digital literacy.

The event kick started with Miss Ebunoluwa, a Turkiye Burslari scholar and volunteer at TSDI encouraging these participants to give their all to quality education. The next day, questionnaires were shared to test their digital literacy knowledge, perception and attitude. This was followed by break out sessions for different educational levels i.e primary, secondary and university aspirants. Discussion about career plans and spotlighting of voices occurred in the undergraduate aspirants and primary/secondary school students respectively. The last day was a practical session where the children and youths were shown different digital devices and their uses.

In total, about 70 students were in attendance consistently. Some of the children shared afterwards how interested they are in education and getting a career in the digital world.
