The New Era Generation: Why We’re Jealous, But Inspired

When I was a child, I was taught to think like a child.

It was worse because I was a girl child.

I played with dolls. I cared for fake babies. I was trained—innocently, subconsciously— for a future that had already been decided for me. I wasn’t supposed to go beyond that. I wasn’t expected to explore, dream, or build. My world was crafted with soft pink limits.

I attended a science school. But computers? They were a luxury. They belonged to the “smart boys,” not girls like me. Technology? That was an abstract concept, a far-off thing that didn’t belong in the realm of femininity. “There are more suitable courses,” they’d say. Suitable. That word haunted so many of us, tailoring our dreams to fit society’s norms rather than breaking those norms to fit our dreams.

But now, the story is changing.

Just this May, I sat in a room full of 40 brilliant young girls (many from rural communities) watching them build, design, and create. They weren’t just using technology. They were transforming it. They were reimagining their futures.

These girls weren’t handed a path, they were paving it.

Through The Sapphires Development Initiative’s SustainHERbility Tech Academy, we saw firsthand what happens when girls are equipped, encouraged, and empowered. They developed real-life solutions using tech. They spoke confidently about their apps. They didn’t ask for permission, they took up space.

And they stood up. They spoke up.

Not just against societal norms that say “you can’t,” but against internal doubt, gender bias, and the invisible walls that box so many children in. In a world that too often bullies children into silence (especially girls) they chose to be loud. Bold. Unapologetic.

This year’s National Children’s Day theme is “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation.” And it couldn’t be more timely.

Because every girl in that room stood up for themselves, for their dreams, and for each other. The students who participated in our SMART ED AI Essay Contest also stood up, sharing powerful ideas on how teachers and AI can shape the future together.

This is the generation that is speaking up and we’re listening.

So yes, we’re jealous. But much more, we’re inspired. Hopeful. Assured.

This Children’s Day, we’re not just celebrating children. We’re celebrating courage. Confidence. And the power of voice.

We’re celebrating a generation that refuses to be silenced.
That refuses to shrink.
That is building the future, one bold step at a time.

And at The Sapphires Development Initiative, we’re honored to walk alongside them.

Happy National Children’s Day to The New Era Generation.
