To commemorate the International Youth Day which was held on August 12, 2021, The Sapphires Development Initiative (TSDI) organized a one-hour, thirty minutes webinar themed study abroad and scholarship: the myth and the truth.
The event had over 80 young persons from across the world in attendance.
Birthed out of one of our key tenets being quality education and gender equality, the webinar aimed to groom great leaders, debunk the myths attached to scholarship applications, provide guidance on how to access quality education within and beyond the borders of the Nigerian state, provide a mentorship scheme for those in attendance since as Mr. Olutomiwa Binuyo (the Executive Director, TSDI) said during the meeting: “asides having handy information, having good mentorship is paramount in not just knowing what to do but doing it right and getting it rightly!”
Our amazing speakers consisted of a one-tier masters pharmacy student at the University of Pecs in Hungary, Miss Faith Adetunmibi, a recipient of the Russian government scholarship award studying population and development in the Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Miss Adeola Oyewole, and a current DAAD scholar studying development studies at the University of Western Cape who also is an award-winning recipient of full scholarships at his BSc and MSc levels, Mr. Olutomiwa Binuyo. The three great facilitators shared key content with regard to scholarship applications. Some of which include, being intentional, getting facts rights, preparing all necessary documents, not giving up regardless of rejections, constantly being on the lookout for opportunities, etc among others.
The over 80 attendees left inspired and motivated to not let opportunities pass by. Feedbacks got showed passion from participants to be more committed and intentional about their applications hence, their engagement on the different WhatsApp platforms for BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. levels.
Conclusively, The Sapphires Development Initiative is concerned with academic excellence, leadership qualities, and positive impact in every sphere of influence, and starting with investments in young persons is a step in the right direction.
